Porzio Opens a Massachusetts Office to Serve Life Sciences Companies

December 27, 2010

Porzio is opening an office in Westborough, MA under the direction of Michelle D. Axelrod, according to an announcement from the law firm’s Managing Principal, D. Jeffrey Campbell.  In addition to her role as a Principal of the law firm, Ms. Axelrod is a Vice President of Porzio Pharmaceutical Services, LLP, a wholly owned subsidiary of the law firm.

Ms. Axelrod is no stranger to the pharmaceutical industry and its challenges.  In her role as Assistant General Counsel at Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc.  (formerly Sepracor Inc.), in Marlborough, MA, from 2004 through November 2010, she had responsibility in all areas of life sciences marketing and sales compliance, as well as in the legal issues governing the development and commercialization of pharmaceuticals.

Porzio’s decision to open an office in Massachusetts is consistent with the firm’s strategic goal of expanding geographically to enhance the growth of existing practices, particularly in the life sciences industry.  Massachusetts is an excellent choice, according to Mr. Campbell who points to the high concentration of life sciences companies in the Commonwealth.

Ms. Axelrod received her B.A., cum laude, from University of Rochester and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York.
